Abstract
In a school community, the greatest cognitive growth occurs through social interaction. Each person must have a role and responsibility in order for the community to be successful. We are all part of several learning communities (Cooperative Learning groups, clsssroom, school, friends and family. Students need to function with autonomy: to function independently without constant adult control or direct supervision. Autonomy in a school setting means governing oneself with an awareness of the needs of the community.
