Abstract

This unit is a study in what causes revolutions to happen. It focuses on the Texas war for independence, and the period of unrest and revolt in Texas from 1821-1836. It starts with a look at the American Revolution and then moves on to the Mexican war for independence from Spain, the Texas war for independence from Mexico and finally a look at the Arab Spring. Students will answer the questions “what leads people to revolt?”, “what makes a government ‘good’ or ‘bad’?”, and “are the reasons for each specific revolution justified?”.
