Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to create a design of the play, The Screens, by Jean Genet in the style of Pablo Picasso as exemplified by his paintings during the period of the 1930s.
The first chapter concerns the study of Jean Genet's life as well as the major influences of his life on two of his best plays, The Balcony and The Blacks. The next chapter is an intensive study of The Screen in order to thoroughly understand the playwright's philosophy and style as illustrated in the play. Finally in the last chapter, the philosophy and style of Pablo Picasso are analyzed and compared with the philosophy and the style of Jean Genet. The third chapter also contains a defense of the designs which were created for the play in the style of the artist.
