Abstract
During this 22 day unit, students will make connections with the fictional characters in this novel that will help deepen their own understanding of friendship. Students will practice using context, word parts and the dictionary (printed or electronic) to determine the meaning of unknown words. Students will practice determining important plot events and summarizing the plot of works of fiction. Students will explain the roles and functions of characters in a work of fiction including their relationships with others and the conflicts the characters encounter throughout the plot. Students will analyze different points of view and evaluate the author's use of point of view.
