Abstract

In this persuasive writing unit for fourth-sixth graders, students will understand the components of persuasive writing before writing their final persuasive letter to the school Parent-Teacher Council. All steps of the writing process will be emphasized. Students will have lots of practice identifying how to develop an argument and evidence to support their claim. In addition, students will also understand how to identify counter-arguments and evidence. Students will have lots of practice with persuasive writing through writing a letter to the parents, to the teacher and then by creating a persuasive book trailer. Throughout the unit, students will also use a variety of technology tools such as Google Docs, Google Forms, Padlet and Flipgrid to share and publish their work, as well as reflect on other's work. Students will not only become writers of persuasive essays but also readers of persuasive work.
