Abstract
The paper seeks to present to a general audience the historical and political context and significance of the book, "Roadside Picnic," by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, in contradiction to the claims made Boris about the book's nature. To do so, the historical context of the book as well as popular political currents are examined, in tandem with the events and details of the narrative, synthesized with wider works about Soviet science fiction.
