Abstract
The central theme of this article basically resides in the relationship established by indigenous peoples between their hunting practices and the forest. Indigenous ways of connecting ‘hunting’ and ‘forest’ necessarily pass through other modes of knowing, only marginally – if it all – dependent on vision. On the contrary, sounds, smells and even dreams are, for many South American indigenous collectives, more trustworthy indices than what the eye sees. This article divides into two parts. In the first, I set out the main ideas related to the anthropological study of hunting in Amazonia at a conceptual level. In the second, shifting toward an anthropology of hunting as lived experience, I develop a reflection based on my own fieldwork with the Awa-Guajá, arriving, finally, at an anthropological (and ecological) critique of the threats to which indigenous territories are now exposed.

O tema central deste artigo é a relação que povos indígenas estabelecem entre suas práticas de caça e a floresta. As formas indígenas de conectar "caça" e "floresta" passam necessariamente por outros modos de percepção, apenas marginalmente — quando muito — dependentes da visão. Ao contrário, sons, cheiros e até mesmo sonhos são, para muitos coletivos indígenas sul-americanos, índices mais confiáveis do que aquilo que os olhos veem. Este artigo divide-se em duas partes. Na primeira, exponho as principais ideias relacionadas ao estudo antropológico da caça na Amazônia em um nível propriamente conceitual. Na segunda, deslocando-me em direção a uma antropologia da caça como experiência vivida, desenvolvo uma reflexão a partir de meu próprio trabalho de campo entre os Awa Guajá, chegando, por fim, a uma crítica antropológica (e ecológica) das ameaças a que os territórios indígenas estão atualmente expostos.
