Abstract
Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, China’s media and religion policies have evolved from harsh and absolute control to hegemonic and coalitional governance. The chapter provides background on China’s religion and media policies and how they have evolved. It examines media coverage in China on religions over the decades, and analyses audience reaction to media coverage.
