Abstract
Guidelines for Mentoring Student Teachers: Collaboration in the Integrated Classroom is an Educator’s guidebook for training and supervision of new teachers at Elementary and Secondary levels on Public and Private School campuses. It shares a framework for their Mentors to provide Professional Development through best practices in classroom planning, methods of grouping students according to academic and social levels, interactive skills with parents and colleagues, and specific ways to identify and teach students with Disabilities in the General Education classroom. Funded by a Texas Education Agency Grant and in collaboration with community Education Specialists, Dr. Karen A. Waldron provides extensive lists of research-based strategies to prepare new and lifetime teachers to work with every student in their classes. These checklists can be copied and shared with all Faculty members on each campus. Since students with different learning needs may often be overlooked, she includes easily completed checklists for Identification and subsequent best Teaching Techniques for students experiencing ADHD, Speech and Language Impairments, Executive Function issues, Vision and Hearing losses, Physical Disabilities, and Behavior Problems. The purpose of this Handbook is to provide an ongoing resource to assure successful teaching and learning experiences for new teachers and each of their students.
