Abstract
Students with Vision and Hearing Loss: Successful Strategies for Teachers and Families is an eBook containing extensive online Activities, Research, and Resources to support children and adolescents who are Vision Impaired or Blind, and those who experience a Hearing Loss or are Deaf.
This collaborative project was administered by Dr. Karen A. Waldron (Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas) and Dr. Michael Steer, with the support of graduate student Dolly Bhargava (Renwick College, New South Wales).
It includes the work of many experts at universities, schools, and regional service centers across the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, and provides specific techniques and strategies from research and application by students in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Trinity University.
This eBook focuses on educating students with Vision and Hearing losses within General Education classrooms. Chapters include best teaching strategies, the use of Assistive Technology to enable students’ full participation, as well as Behavior Management and Social Skills programming to develop peer friendships and enhance self-esteem.
The invaluable “Resources” section provides online computer Links to current international programs, schools, and dedicated services for Vision and Hearing support. Articles and historical research papers also explore philosophical and research-based conclusions from acknowledged leaders in Special Education.
Throughout the chapters, themes embrace serving children and adolescents in families from varied racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, across diverse geographical regions and continents.
This project has been possible through ongoing support at Trinity University by Professor Benjamin Harris (Dean of the Library), Jane Costanza (Head of Resources Management and Discovery), and student Martín Rosales.
The eBook is maintained at the Trinity University Coates Library, San Antonio, Texas, and is intended for free, non-commercial distribution to Teachers, University Faculty, and Families supporting students with Vision and Hearing Loss.
