Abstract
To become an effective teacher of young children, it is important to understand how they learn. Such understanding provides a good foundation for the study of children and how they learn music. Learning theories help teachers plan strategies for teaching and set the environment as children develop skills, knowledge, and values. This chapter provides a brief overview of learning theories that are relevant to both young children's education and music education. Music applications of these theories are discussed in Chapter 3.
