Abstract
This creative non-fiction piece draws on archival research and interviews to tell stories from the San Antonio River. Arranged in six thematic chapters, "Stories from the River" highlights the voices of people who have worked and lived along the river, as well as the river's own voice. While the interviews include people from all over San Antonio, the chapters emphasize narratives from the city's South and West Sides. These stories provoke reflection about how people form relationships with their physical environments, how injustice can be perpetuated in human and non-human ecosystems, and how love and remembrance can be the first steps towards understanding and healing a place.
